The first game of the season at home to Bournemouth was one that Forest had the most of, but they couldn’t finish the chances that they had. The lack of scoring prowess showed when manager Colin Calderwood started the game with one up front. The man given the job of leading the attack was Scott Dobie. And he’s only scored three times for the club in two seasons. Yes, his Forest career has been injury ravaged, but he still should’ve scored more than three times.
So let’s look at who could come in to help Forest score goals. With Holt unfit, Tyson injured and Agogo planning his travels to the African Nations Cup, more firepower is needed.
John Hartson
His name has been banded around for a while now. He’s a similar type of player to Grant Holt, but is a much better finisher. He’s available for transfer, but money would have to be shelled out. It’s always been hard to know if Mr. Doughty is willing to part with some money, and he has done so quite often this summer, but will he again?. Hartson may want to come to Forest, a team surely going places, but maybe the man who could tempt him to Trentside would be his former Celtic captain Neil Lennon.
Andy Cole
Apparently the Nottingham born striker came for a medical, but failed it. But if poor striking performances continue this month, maybe Calderwood will explore the Cole option again. Most fans would like to see the local lad in the squad, someone who has a proven goalscoring record in the Premier League, but would he want to come to a club that apparently rejected him only weeks ago?
Kazenga Lua Lua
Not a name that his been thrown around at all. But the young Newcastle striker has pace in abundance, and may well be interested in coming for first team football. A two league drop might be the only disadvantage. He has a lot to live up to, because of his brother Lomana Tresor Lua Lua, and if he turned out to be anywhere near as good as him he’d be a good player. Maybe he can get some first team football at The City Ground.
Andrew Carroll
Another Newcastle striker, who has been named in the press as a potential loan target. Whether Newcastle would want to let him go is another matter – but maybe with Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Michael Owen and Alan Smith all in front of him in the pecking order, a deal might be able to be done. Even if it is a short term loan, it would be a great help for Forest, who are going to be without Tyson for at least another month.
Tom Craddock
The young striker has come through the Middlesbrough youth academy, and has played in the Premier League on one occasion and had a largely unsuccessful spell at Wrexham on loan last season, making only one appearance. But he has got a great deal of potential, but the signing of Craddock on loan would be more of a gamble than any of the other players mentioned.
Jermaine Easter
A very prolific striker in League Two with Wycombe last season, scoring 19 goals in 38 appearances. He would probably be interested in the move upwards to Forest, but when the other strikers return, would he be getting many chances? Again it would all come down to whether Chairmen Doughty wishes to part with his cash, and if Easter isn’t going to be first choice, why spend the money?
