Portuguese winger Daniel Podence has confirmed that he has left Sporting Lisbon after having his contract terminated with the Portuguese club.

Speaking on his Instagram account (translated by the Nottingham Post), the 22-year-old revealed that his “spell at Sporting had ended.”

We have reportedly already held talks with the Portugal Under 21 international, although this confirmation about his future will mean the quest for his next club will be stepped up.

Considering we already have El Arbi Hillel Soudani and Gil Dias who can play on the right-hand side of midfield, I think he would have to play either as a number 10 or on the left-hand side if he were to be a target.

Most likely, the club would probably want to offload a number of players in offensive positions before signing more attacking talent. Still, last Monday, Aitor Karanka stated he wanted four more players. A keeper, a fullback, a midfielder and a striker.

With new signings Costel Pantilimon and Lewis Grabban filling two of those four places, Podence could well be the midfielder the manager is looking for, although it could equally be Newcastle’s Jack Colback.

What do you think? Should we go after Podence? Let me know in the poll:
