Player Won’t Make Loan Deal Permanent If He Has A Future At Forest

Young centre-half Joe Worrall was a casualty of manager Aitor Karanka’s decision to bring in more experience at Nottingham Forest and he headed out for a loan spell with Scottish giants Rangers back during the last transfer window.

With Forest harbouring promotion hopes this season, the 21-year-old Academy graduate is well liked by many fans and plenty feel he has a massive future ahead of him given the development he should still naturally make and it was hoped the move would be a good learning curve for him this season where he could build further game time and experience under the charge of Steven Gerrard.

Worrall has made eleven appearances for them so far and he’s even helped himself to some Europa League experience as well. In what will be music to some Forest fans’ ears, Sunday Mail chief football writer Scott McDermott claimed recently to the Rangers Record Podcast that Worrall didn’t appear to be making the right noises about turning the loan into a permanent deal, and he believed that as long as he was still wanted at the City Ground, that was where his future lay.

“Normally with these things the guy speaks really highly about the club and also speaks really passionately about getting a permanent deal or trying to get a longer deal. Joe Worrall hasn’t done that at all. Nottingham Forest are still a big club, obviously. But more importantly they’re his club, they’re his local club, they’re where he’s grew up.”

McDermott went on to say that it seems Worrall’s ultimate ‘ambition’ is to play for us in the Premier League and whilst he feels that pathway to the top-flight is open for him with us, he won’t go looking for a move.

“His ambition is to play for Nottingham Forest and ultimately play in the Premier League. Whether that’s for Nottingham Forest or somebody else. He’s not outwardly showing any real desire to stay beyond his loan spell. He looks as if he’s seeing this very much as a kind of stepping stone, either to go back to Forest or go elsewhere in England.”

Worrall himself has stated that ‘Forest are my team’ and clarifying that it is a ‘loan for me’ when the topic of a permanent move has come up previously, so for those fans who want him back at the heart of defence, as long as Karanka doesn’t think otherwise, he will be back sooner rather than later.
