Pictured: Nottingham Forest man returns to training ahead of Brentford clash

Rafa Mir was pictured training with the Nottingham Forest first-team ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Brentford. The 22-year-old recovered from a leg injury over the weekend but wasn’t deemed fit enough to feature against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday.

Mir’s return is good timing for Forest as Sabri Lamouchi didn’t have a natural striker on the bench against Blackburn – Karim Ansarifard, Jason Cummings, Apostolos Vellios, Hillal Soudani were all sold over the summer without replacements being brought in. Lewis Grabban & Sammy Ameobi lead the line on Tuesday while Albert Adomah & Brennan Johnson provided cover.

Zach Clough is the only other attacking option if Mir was unavailable, but the 24-year-old looks likely to spend the campaign on the periphery. Lamouchi admitted that he wanted another striker in the squad over the summer, so Forest might look to bolster their options when the winter transfer window opens.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Brentford, Forest are unbeaten in eight games, find themselves fourth in the table and are just two points adrift of leaders Swansea City. Only four clubs have scored more goals (15) and conceded fewer (9) than the Reds this season too.

Mir should be fit to make the squad on Saturday.
