Sam Byram is expected to sign on a season-long loan deal from West Ham, according to the Sun.

The right-back has been linked with a move to the City Ground for a fair few weeks now, but it seems negotiations are finally getting close to a conclusion.

With the Premier League defender’s switch to the club looking imminent, I asked fans whether signing the 24-year-old was a good idea. An overwhelming majority said he’s the perfect fit:

There’s no doubt that we have needed to strengthen at right-back for a while, and with Eric Lichaj departing the club, the lack of options has been self-evident.

One concern I do have about Byram though is his injury record. He spent a large part of last season on the sidelines due to the fitness issues. Let’s hope that if he does sign for us that he stays fit for the whole season during his loan spell.
