Nottingham Forests’ versatile midfielder James Perch has been told by manager Colin Calderwood to make the Right Back position his own next season.

Perch has played in a number of positions for the Reds’, but for the majority of last season was placed in midfield. He was quoted last year as saying that was his prefered position, but so long as he was in the side he didn’t mind.

Since John Curtis left the club for Queens Park Rangers in the summer, it was widely thought that one of the managers first priorities would be the signing of a new right back, but Calderwood believes he has one ready made in Perchio.

The 21 year old is no stranger to the position as he has played there on a number of occasions in the past. Perch told the official site. ‘I want to settle down in one particular position. Being able to play in a number of positions can at times be an advantage, but when you are chopping and changing roles it can make it difficult to play well week in, week out.’

Perch will not find it easy to walk straight into the spot though as he himself admits that both Wilson and Chambers can fill the void left by Curtis, but he is prepared to fight for his place. Is Perch the right man for the role, or should we sign a new right back? Join the debate on the forum now.
