Birmingham City’s Gary McSheffrey could find himself in the middle of a bidding war, as Forest and now Crystal Palace fight for the winger cum strikers signature next season.

McSheffrey had his loan spell with the Reds’ cut short, due to a recurrence of the knee injury that has dogged him all season. He made four appearances for us in his time here and did enough in his short spell to impress Billy Davies.

Billy has told the player to spend the summer getting fit and has made no secret of his desire to sign him. But, if reports in todays Sunday Mercury are true, then Davies faces competition from his counterpart Neil Warnock at Palace.

The paper suggests a fee of around £1m will be needed to prize him away from Brum, where he still has a year left to run on his contract. If the player can get fit and recover his form prior to his injury, then a mill would be a decent price for a player proven at Championship level.
