Opinion: Youngster won’t join Nottingham Forest first-team after pre-season woes

|

Alex Mighten would have been hoping to impress Sabri Lamouchi in pre-season to stand a chance of featuring for Nottingham Forest in the coming campaign, but things haven’t gone too well for the 17-year-old this summer.

Mighten didn’t make the matchday squad against Alfreton on June 29 and Dundee on July 2. The wide-man was an unused substitute against Atromitos on July 13 and Olympiacos on July 16. He failed to make the squad against Palace on July 19 but was given 45 minutes against Mansfield on July 23.

Unfortunately for Mighten, however, his only outing came for the u23s who were stocked with players that are out of favour at Forest and surplus to requirements under Lamouchi. It’s hard to see him giving any opportunities in the first-team this coming season as a result.

The Reds have stiff competition on the wing, even when Ben Osborn joins Sheffield United. Lamouchi can call upon Albert Adomah, Sammy Ameobi, Joe Lolley, Matty Cash, Arvin Appiah and Brennan Johnson, so Mighten has a tough task getting minutes in 2019/20.

He’s still only young and should use the upcoming campaign to impress at u23 level. If he can stand out, like Johnson did, he could find himself in the first-team next year.
