Opinion: Sabri Lamouchi won’t select Nottm Forest man after national team performances

|

Arijanet Muric has been short of minutes at Nottingham Forest and had an opportunity to send a statement of intent to Sabri Lamouchi while on international duty with Kosovo.

The 21-year-old wasn’t at his best, however, and won’t have convinced Lamouchi to choose him over Brice Samba between the sticks.

Muric made two appearances for Kosovo during the international break – 2-1 defeat to Czech Republic (November 14), 4-0 defeat to England (November 17) – and was guilty of sloppy goalkeeping in the first Euro 2020 qualifier.

After Kosovo went ahead, the Czech’s equalised through a long-range effort from Alex Kral that somehow beat Muric. Their second goal came from Ondrej Celustka minutes later and saw the Kosovo ‘keeper beaten by a low header and unable to stop a close-range tap-in.

In the second Euro 2020 qualifier, Muric saved a fierce effort from Raheem Sterling and stopped a low drive from Ben Chilwell, but he was beaten four times over 90 minutes. One effort from Marcus Rashford looked savable but nestled into the back of the net too. Fans were mixed on his overall performance.

Should Nottingham Forest cut Arijanet Muric's loan short in January?

Yes

No

Lamouchi dropped the 21-year-old back in August and has trusted Samba in his stead. It’s hard to see Muric returning to the side based on his performances for Kosovo and looks far more likely that his loan move will be cancelled in January.
