Opinion: Nottingham Forest should sign £45k-per-week man after Swansea exit

|

Nottingham Forest are expected to bring in at least one central midfielder this summer to replace Jack Colback and Pele. The Reds have Adlene Guedioura, Ben Watson, Claudio Yacob, Liam Bridcutt and Ryan Yates to choose from, but the futures of Guedioura, Watson, Yacob and Bridcutt are uncertain due to their lack of playing time in 2019.

One player the Reds should consider bringing is Leroy Fer. The 29-year-old, who earned £45k-per-week at Swansea City, will be available on a free transfer. Fer made 27 appearances in all competitions last season and would fit the profile of what Forest are looking for in the transfer market – Championship-ready and a free transfer.

In 2018/19, the Dutch international contributed three goals in 15 Championship starts, created 16 chances, made 15 successful dribbles (83%), averaged 29 passes-per-game with 81% accuracy, won 47 aerial duels (69%), blocked 19 shots/passes/crosses, made 17 clearances and averaged a tackle (40) or interception (17) every 24 minutes.

Fer would be a good addition to the Nottingham Forest, but it’s unknown if he’s on the radar of Sabri Lamouchi. With the Reds looking to make low-value and low-risk signings this summer, the former Swansea City man would be the ideal free transfer.
