Opinion: Nottingham Forest should sign £40k-per-week Newcastle man in January

Nottingham Forest failed in their bid to sign Jack Colback from Newcastle during the summer transfer window, but the Reds may have a chance to bring the £40k-per-week midfielder back to the City Ground after his latest snub on Tyneside.
As per Miles Starforth of the Shields Gazette, Colback was left out of Newcastle’s squad by Steve Bruce and hasn’t been assigned a shirt number for the 2019/20 campaign. Bruce wants to loan the 29-year-old out before the overseas transfer window shuts on September 2, but the January window is also an option.
Despite being frozen out, Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo says that Colback is willing to stay at Newcastle to try and earn a place back in the side in January. This would be good news for Forest, as it presents them with another chance to sign the Englishman in the coming months.
Colback made 55 appearances in all competitions for Forest (January 31, 2018 – May 31, 2018) (July 20, 2018 – May 31, 2019). After the Reds missed out on his signature, they turned their attentions to John Bostock, Alfa Semedo and Samba Sow to bolster the midfield.
Forest have enough options in Colback’s absence, but he was an influential player in the East Midlands and may be available next year.
