Martin O’Neill has been linked with a variety of wingers this summer – Kamil Grosicki of Hull City, Hosam Aiesh of Ostersunds and Gavin Whyte of Oxford United – but Nottingham Forest should consider a move for Jamal Lowe to strengthen their attack. The Reds were linked with the Portsmouth man earlier in the season and could boost their promotion hopes in 2019/20 if they procured his signature.
Forest currently have Joe Lolley, Ben Osborn and Matty Cash to choose from on the wing, but only the former contributed goals on a regular basis last season (11 goals, 11 assists). Osborn and Cash, however, scored and created only five goals between them since the turn of the year, so a move for a player like Lowe is essential. He wants a Championship move too.
The Reds may have to battle Leeds United, Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic for his signature, however, with a number of clubs showing interest after his outstanding campaign in League One – Lowe scored and created 26 goals in 55 games in all competitions. He joined Pompey from Hampton & Richmond Borough in 2017 and could now be set for a move to the second tier.
The 24-year-old reportedly has a £2m asking price which won’t break the bank for Forest, but whether O’Neill wins the race for his signature remains to be seen. Lowe could leave Portsmouth on a free transfer in 2020, so his club might look to cash in early this summer.
