Opinion: Nottingham Forest should sign £25k-per-week man, would strengthen the attack

Martin O’Neill has shown interest in a number of wingers this summer – Kamil Grosicki of Hull City and Gavin Whyte of Oxford United – and has been recently linked with a move for Albert Adomah. The 31-year-old recently left Aston Villa at the end of his £25k-per-week contract and has a lot of suitors showing interest – Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Millwall.

Adomah would be a good signing for Forest. He’s available on a free transfer, has helped two sides gain promotion to the Premier League (Middlesbrough in 2015/16 and Aston Villa in 2018/19) and has the ideal attributes to succeed under O’Neill. The Reds manager likes old-fashioned wingers who can take on their opponent and deliver balls into the box.

The Ghanaian international would be a considerable upgrade on Ben Osborn and Matty Cash too, with the pair contributing just five goals between them in 2019. Adomah made 19 successful dribbles, created 27 chances and whipped in 109 crosses with 23% accuracy. He’d provide good service into the frontman.

Forest have stiff competition for his signature this summer, but Adomah could be open to a move if the East Midlands side can prove they’re gunning for promotion next season. O’Neill’s men finished ninth in the Championship in 2018/19 and only need one or two players of quality to push for a top-six finish.
