Liam Bridcutt could be forced to stay at Nottingham Forest after a lack of interest in his signature this summer. The 30-year-old was expected to leave after falling down the pecking order and being deemed surplus to requirements under Aitor Karanka, Martin O’Neill and Sabri Lamouchi, but he’s been unable to find himself a new club.

Bridcutt was linked with a move to Ipswich Town in December 2018 and Peterborough in June 2019, but he remains at the City Ground and is resigned to playing football in the u23s – he captained Forest’s reserves against Queens Park Rangers on August 20.

With Alfa Semedo, Ben Watson, Samba Sow, John Bostock and Ryan Yates for competition, Bridcutt has a difficult task of getting into the first-team. Claudio Yacob isn’t getting a look-in either and may have to leave Forest to get opportunities elsewhere. He has until September 2 to find himself a new club before the overseas transfer window shuts.

Bridcutt also has a week to broker a move away from Forest, but clubs don’t appear too keen – likely down to his lofty wages as Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony alluded to on Twitter. If he stays at Forest, he’s likely to run down his deal until the summer of 2020 when his contract expires.
