Brennan Johnson is in the Nottingham Forest squad for pre-season and has a big opportunity to impress new manager Sabri Lamouchi. Several young products of the Nigel Doughty Academy will feature in the first-team next season – Joe Worrall, Ben Osborn, Matty Cash, Arvin Appiah, Tyler Walker – and Lamouchi’s latest comments give hope that Johnson could be one of them.
As per Nottinghamshire Live, the Reds’ boss said: “From the start, since I came here, right up until now, I have been really surprised by the young players. They have quality, they have a good attitude, and they must stay in this way. If they can do that, they will have time to play, because I like it when players show me what they want and exactly what I want to see, out on the pitch.”
Johnson was a standout performer for the u23s last season, scoring 14 goals out wide, and has continued his form in the first-team this summer. The 18-year-old scored in Forest’s first pre-season friendly against Alfreton Town on June 29, came off the bench against Dundee on July 2, played for over an hour against Atromitos on July 13 and came off the bench against Olympiacos on July 16.
Johnson has featured in every friendly this summer and has a good chance of sticking around the senior squad in August as a result. He has stiff competition from the likes of Osborn, Cash, Appiah, Joe Lolley, Sammy Ameobi and Albert Adomah but will have the backing of his manager if he continues to impress when called upon.
