Jordan Smith has an uncertain future at Nottingham Forest after struggling for playing time in the last 18 months. The 24-year-old’s last Championship appearance for the Reds was against Preston North End on January 30, 2018, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be Forest’s No.1 shot-stopper again.

Smith spent last season on loan at Barnsley (November 16, 2018 – November 23, 2018) and Mansfield Town (January 10, 2019 – May 31, 2019), making one appearance for the Tykes and 12 for the Stags. The Englishman has Costel Pantilimon and Luke Steele ahead of him in the pecking order and might have to leave to get regular playing time.

He was a regular for much of his loan spell at Mansfield but lost his place in the final few weeks of the 2018/19 season. Smith made just one appearance for Town between mid-March and early-May and was an unused substitute on nine occasions. His contract expires in 2020, so Forest may have a decision to make whether to cash in early.

Smith rose through the youth ranks to the Reds’ first-team in 2015 and has gone on to make 48 appearances in all competitions, conceding 71 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.
