A meeting that has been organised by the EFL could have a detrimental effect on Nottingham Forest and their fans.

The league’s governing body will be in attendance in London on Monday regarding coronavirus, with sports broadcasters and Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

In Italy, Serie A matches are being played behind closed doors and 16m people have been quarantined as a result of the virus outbreak, in an attempt to prevent it from further spreading.

While other leagues across the world has taken similar action, the Nottingham Post reported that the meeting could mean that the same will take place in the UK, meaning that Forest will play in an empty City Ground stadium.

This will seriously hit us hard, as we will be set to lose out on significant matchday revenue, including tickets, merchandise and broadcasting fees.

Can you see Forest getting promoted this season?

As if losing against Millwall wasn’t bad enough for us, the prospect of playing our last run of games behind closed doors will be nothing short of a disaster.

While the report mentions that there are no guarantees at this time, we can only hope as a fanbase that this doesn’t go ahead. If it does, I fear that this would seriously affect our summer transfer activity and could cause a huge financial loss when next year’s results are announced.

Pre-match handshakes have already been banned by both the EFL and Premier League, with some even going as far as banning selfies and signing autographs. Let’s hope that this is as far as it goes in regards to how the rest of the season pans out and preparations for next season.
