Opinion: Does one goal in six games prove Nottingham Forest were right to sell 27-year-old?

Apostolos Vellios was sold to Atromitos Athen over the summer after falling down the pecking order at Nottingham Forest, but his form hasn’t improved in Greece.

The 27-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions for his new club, scoring just one goal. Vellios endured a five-game goal drought (397 minutes) before hitting the back of the net in the Super League against PAS Lamia (September 1).

As per Transfermarkt, the Greek international fired blanks in both Champions League qualifiers against Dunajska Streda (July 25 & August 1) and Legia Warszawa (August 8 & August 14) while also failing to score past AE Larisa on August 25.

Vellios joined Forest in 2016 and spent three years at the City Ground, making 45 appearances in all competitions, but things fell apart after his debut season. The 27-year-old racked up just 359 minutes of Championship football in 2017/18 and was loaned out the following campaign.

He was surplus to requirements for Forest and hasn’t quite hit the ground running with Atromitos either. The centre-forward was popular among some supporters, but it doesn’t appear that he’ll be missed based on his start to 2019/20.
