Well, he certainly made the best of his opportunity.

The question now becomes though, has he done enough to convince someone else to give him a longer stretch in between the sticks.

With Brice Samba suffering from a slight knee injury, 25-year-old Jordan Smith was forced to make his first league appearance since 2018 against Barnsley at the weekend, and certainly made up for lost time.

He did his very best to keep the hosts at bay when they were throwing everything at him. Barnsley had 20 shots in total, 7 of them on target and even hitting the woodwork on a few occasions, he was pretty under the cosh for the whole game, so to keep them out for as long as he could, earning tremendous praise from supporters in the process.

But what should become of him now? At the age of 25, it’s far too early for him to be considered a ‘veteran backup’, and at the same time he can’t really be called an up and coming prospect.

Does Jordan Smith have a future at Nottingham Forest?

Yes

Yes

No

No

My hope is that his display at the weekend has was enough to make watching scouts and managers something to think about when it comes to signing him, because with Brice Samba putting in some great displays all season, he certainly isn’t going anywhere soon, so it’s time that Smith makes the move instead.

Even though he only has a value of £135k on Transfermarkt, I think that a display like this might be enough to put his value up a little bit, and hopefully we can use that money elsewhere in the squad in an area that needs it more, like getting a decent backup for Lewis Grabban for instance.

What about you? What do you make of Smith’s future, be it at the City Ground or elsewhere?
