Nottingham Forest confirmed that Sam Greenwood has left the club and will be officially released at the end of his contract in July. The defender was part of the Forest academy, playing for the u18s. Greenwood spent an extended period on the sidelines due to a serious injury that resulted in him getting surgery, but his development clearly suffered upon his recovery.

Greenwood wasn’t a regular in the u18 side this season. He was often left out of the squad for Professional Development League games and was only named on the bench when he was selected by Gareth Holmes, resulting in second-half cameos. His departure is no surprise, but he appears to be the only u18 player released by Forest according to their retained list.

Elsewhere, Elliott Andrew, Nykah Liburd-Hines, Alex Mighten, Tawanda Mutoti, Samuel Sanders, Malique Spooner and Michael Statham were retained for a second year of scholarship while Forest offered contracts to six academy players – Yassine En-Neyah, Owen Gallacher, Kieran Hayes, Ethan Stewart, Jake Taylor, Jordan Wright.

The Reds also named the 12 academy players who are contracted at the City Ground past 2019 – Keith Asare, Ethan Dekel-Daks, Toby Edser, Tyrese Fornah, Virgil Gomis, Riley Harbottle, Brennan Johnson, Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel, Danny Preston, Jayden Richardson, George Shelvey, Victor Sodeinde.
