Official: Virgil Gomis loan update

|

Virgil Gomis joined Macclesfield Town on a season-long loan deal in August and has made three appearances in all competitions for the Silkmen. The 20-year-old is yet to start in League Two or the EFL Cup, but he’s slowly getting more minutes week by week which will aid in his development.

The centre-forward made his Macclesfield debut against Leyton Orient in League Two on August 10, coming off the bench in the 77th minute for Ben Stephens. He made his second appearance against Blackpool in the EFL Cup on August 13, again coming off the bench for Stephens in the 62nd minute. Gomis’ third outing was against Northampton Town in League Two and saw him coming off the bench in the 73rd minute for Stephens.

Gomis was moved on by Nottingham Forest due to the stiff competition for places in the first-team. He’s yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds and finds himself behind Albert Adomah, Matty Cash, Joe Lolley and Sammy Ameobi in the pecking order. Being loaned out to a side two divisions below Forest is evidence of what level the Frenchman’s currently at.

Sabri Lamouchi has better options at his disposal, so Gomis will have to work hard to impress any scouts monitoring his progress through the course of the season.
