Official: Virgil Gomis loan update

|

Virgil Gomis isn’t having the best time at Macclesfield Town. The 20-year-old is yet to start a game for the Silkmen and was dropped for their latest League Two fixture. Gomis has racked up just 70 minutes of football in all competitions since making the loan move and finds his short-term future shrouded in uncertainty.

In the league, Gomis has made three appearances for Macclesfield, all of which have come from the bench – 11 minutes against Leyton Orient (August 10), 17 minutes against Northampton Town (August 17) and 14 minutes against Morecambe (August 20). The Frenchman was an unused substitute against Scunthorpe (August 24) and didn’t make the squad against Stevenage (August 31).

With Albert Adomah, Joe Lolley, Matty Cash and Sammy Ameobi for competition on the wing, Gomis stands little chance of getting minutes under Sabri Lamouchi. Unfortunately, his loan spell isn’t going to plan either. If he can’t get a game for Macclesfield, there’s little reason for him to stay at Moss Rose.

Gomis was pictured training with the players ahead of the Stevenage match, so there doesn’t appear to be any suggestion that he’s injured. He’s just out of favour under Daryl McMahon.
