Virgil Gomis recently joined Macclesfield Town on a season-long loan and made the Silkmen’s matchday squad against Leyton Orient on Saturday, August 10. The 20-year-old came off the bench in the 77th minute, replacing Ben Stephens and ran out a 3-0 winner at fulltime. Gomis had an opportunity to score in the 86th minute, but his touch let him down in front of goal.

Gomis could make the squad for Macclesfield’s EFL Cup first-round clash with Blackpool on Tuesday evening. Manager Sol Campbell could use the competition to give fringe players or new faces a chance to impress. It will be a big year for Gomis as he’ll be monitored by Nottingham Forest scouts over the course of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 20-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Reds and sought loan moves away from the City Ground to get competitive football. He made five appearances for Braintree (October 26, 2018 – November 25, 2018) and 10 for Notts County (January 31, 2019 – May 31, 2019). If Gomis can shine at Moss Rose, Sabri Lamouchi might take notice.

As things stand, however, Forest have Albert Adomah, Matty Cash, Sammy Ameobi and Joe Lolley for competition.
