Official: Tyler Walker loan update

Tyler Walker scored twice for Mansfield Town in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Exeter City, taking his tally to 19 goals in 39 League Two games this season. The 22-year-old has been in fantastic form since joining the Stags on loan from Nottingham Forest and is doing all he can to convince Martin O’Neill that he deserves a shot in the first-team in 2019/20.

After Exeter’s Matt Jay scored either side of a CJ Hamilton brace, Walker got on the scoresheet to put Mansfield 3-1 up at St James Park. He curled an effort past Christy Pym in the 57th minute. His second and Mansfield’s fourth came with a quarter of an hour remaining. Walker scored a penalty after being brought down in the area.

The former England u20 international raved about his teammates in a post-match interview, saying: “I thought we were fantastic. To a man it was one of our best games this season. Everyone ran for each other, it was a hot day, and I just thought it was a great team performance.”

Saturday’s win was important as Mansfield had previously dropped points in their last four games against Port Vale (2-1), Crawley (0-0), Lincoln City (1-1) and Crewe (2-1). Town finished the weekend fourth in the table with 69 points from 40 games, two adrift of third-placed Bury.

David Flitcroft’s men fell out of the automatic promotion places after their poor run of form, but they still have six games left to pick up as many points as possible to move back into the top-three.
