Ryan Yates is making progress in his recovery from a knee injury and was hoping to return after the international break. Nottingham Forest next face Swansea City on September 14, but whether Yates is in a position to make the matchday squad remains to be seen. His latest injury update on Instagram is positive, however.

The 21-year-old has yet to make an appearance this season, having undergone surgery on his knee which has kept him out of action. He’ll have stiff competition for places when he is available for selection too, with Alfa Semedo, Ben Watson and Samba Sow impressing in midfield.

Sabri Lamouchi also has John Bostock and Claudio Yacob to choose from, so Forest definitely aren’t short on options. The Reds have enjoyed a bright start to the new season and currently sit 10th in the Championship with nine points from six games. Forest are coming off the back of a five-game unbeaten run and could move into the playoffs if results go their way next weekend.

Yates will be desperate to play a part, having enjoyed a successful breakthrough campaign in 2018/19, but he’s unlikely to be rushed back by Lamouchi even when he’s passed fit.
