Nottingham Forest confirmed on Friday that Carl Jenkinson is nearing a recovery from an ankle injury. The 27-year-old has returned to the training pitch and could be available for selection in the coming weeks. He’s unlikely to feature against Derby but may be in contention after the international break.

Forest’s positive injury update is a big boost for Sabri Lamouchi, but Jenkinson has his work cut out getting back into the side. Matty Cash has been undroppable at right-back this season and is staking a claim as one of the best in the Championship.

Lamouchi turned to the 22-year-old after Jenkinson and Tendayi Darikwa picked up lengthy injuries and has been rewarded for his faith. Having stiff competition for places is still a good thing for the Forest manager, however, as it will push Cash & Jenkinson to be at their best.

Should Sabri Lamouchi stick with Matty Cash when Carl Jenkinson returns?

Jenkinson made only four appearances before picking up his injury, the last of which came against Preston North End on August 31. The England international has missed nine games in all competitions and could be absent for at least one more as he steps up his recovery.
