Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Rafa Mir on a season-long loan deal after completing a medical. The 22-year-old is described as a ‘highly-rated’ striker who will compete with Lewis Grabban, Tyler Walker and Sammy Ameobi for playing time next season.

The departures of Apostolos Vellios, Hillal Soudani and Karim Ansarifard, coupled with Daryl Murphy’s uncertain future, forced Sabri Lamouchi to bring in another centre-forward. Mir has struggled for playing time at Wolverhampton Wanderers and will hope to impress on loan to send a message to Nuno Espírito Santo.

The Spanish u21 international scored and created eight goals in 30 games during last season’s loan at US Las Palmas. He’s only featured four times for Wolves since his 2018-move from Valencia and is unlikely to dethrone Raul Jimenez, Diego Jota and Leo Bonatini, hence his loan move to the City Ground.

A deal suits all parties. Wolves want to maintain the striker’s development despite not having a place for him in their first-team, Forest need another forward to take the scoring burden off Lewis Grabban and Mir has a chance to get regular football if he works hard for the Reds.
