Nottingham Forest confirm that Liam Bridcutt has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan until January. The 30-year-old has struggled for playing time at the City Ground and was expected to be moved on as a result. Bridcutt fell down the pecking order under Aitor Karanka, Martin O’Neill & Sabri Lamouchi, and has been playing with Forest’s u23s for nearly a year.

With Alfa Semedo, Ben Watson, Samba Sow, John Bostock, Ryan Yates and Claudio Yacob for competition, Bridcutt stood little chance of getting minutes for Forest. He was resigned to playing reserve-team football in 2019/20, but Bolton have given him a unique opportunity. Wanderers are low on senior players and are scouring the loan market for players.

Bolton have until midnight to conclude their business for the summer and are expected to make more loan signings to fight for survival in League One. The Trotters are currently rock bottom with -11 points from their first five games of the season, four of which they’ve lost, so Bridcutt is brave to move to the Macron Stadium.

The Scotland international is guaranteed to be a regular in the starting lineup, but he’s unlikely to be on the winning side most weeks. With his contract up in 2020, however, Bridcutt could use this loan to put himself in the shop window for January.
