Al Gharafa SC confirmed the signing of Adlene Guedioura from Nottingham Forest. The central midfielder passed a medical and was announced by the Qatari club on Wednesday afternoon. Guedioura made 100 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, scoring and creating 12 goals.
The 33-year-old’s contract at Forest was up in 2020 and he’s been on the periphery in 2019, so his departure isn’t a surprise. Sabri Lamouchi brought in Tiago Silva, Samba Sow, Alfa Semedo and John Bostock to strengthen the midfield this summer, so Guedioura inevitably fell down the pecking order.
The Algerian international is the 11th player to depart the City Ground this summer after Ben Osborn (Sheffield United), Panagiotis Tachtsidis (Leece), Apostolos Vellios (Atromitos), Stephen Henderson (Crystal Palace), Karim Ansarifard (Al Sailiya), Jorge Grant (Lincoln City), Hillal Soudani (Olympiacos), Jamie Ward (released), Juan Fuentes (released) and Liam Bossin (released).
Guedioura made 28 appearances in all competitions for Forest last season, but he failed to start a Championship game in March, April and May, and amassed only 161 minutes of league football after January. Forest have better players in his position and Lamouchi was happy for Guedioura to leave if he received better offers elsewhere.
