Official: Luke Steele loan update

|

Luke Steele joined Millwall on a short-term loan deal in August and has made only one appearance for the Lions this season. The 34-year-old was surplus to requirements at Nottingham Forest which paved the way for his temporary departure, but he isn’t getting any more opportunities at The Den either.

Steele was an unused substitute against West Bromwich Albion in the Championship on August 10, played a full 90 minutes against West Brom in the EFL Cup on August 13 and was an unused substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship on August 17.

Under manager Neil Harris, the English goalkeeper finds himself behind Bartosz Bialkowski in the pecking order and may spend the next handful of months as backup between the sticks. Steele will return to Forest in January 2020 and will only have six months remaining on his contract.

Given Sabri Lamouchi has Arijanet Muric, Brice Samba, Costel Pantilimon and Jordan Smith at his disposal, it’s hard to see Steele getting minutes in the first-team. After being on the periphery in the East Midlands, making just seven appearance in 12 months, the veteran stopper will surely hope his next move leads to more minutes on the pitch.
