Nottingham Forest have confirmed that Stephen Henderson and Jamie Ward have been released. The out-of-favour duo were out of contract this summer and were expected to leave after struggling for playing time in 2018/19.

Henderson joined Forest from Charlton Athletic in 2016 and has gone on to make 16 appearances in all competitions for the Reds. The 31-year-old has conceded 27 goals and kept three clean sheets in the last three years.

His last appearance for Forest came against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on September 20, 2017. Henderson conceded five goals on the night. The uncapped Irishman has been loaned out twice in the last two years too.

Henderson made 28 appearances for Portsmouth (January 31, 2018 – May 31, 2018) and 3 appearances for Wycombe Wanderers (December 4, 2018 – December 25, 2018).

As for Ward, the Forest wide-man made 62 appearances in all competitions since joining from Derby County in 2015. He’s been loaned out to Burton Albion (August 31, 2016 – January 20, 2017), Cardiff City (January 31, 2018 – May 31, 2018) and Charlton Athletic (August 31, 2018 – January 1, 2019).

Ward’s last outing for the Reds came against Preston North End on January 30, 2018. Since returning from his loan at Charlton, he’s spent the last few months playing for Forest’s u23 side.
