Former Doncaster Rovers player Simon Gillett is undergoing a trial with the Reds’, according to various media sources today. The midfielder had been training with Portsmouth since being released by Rovers at the end of last season.
Gillett won the Player of the Year award at Donny last season and was an everpresent in the side that was relegated to League 1. He’s 26 years of age and plays a defensive role from midfield.
It was O’Driscoll who signed Gillett from Southampton, whilst manager at Rovers and is clearly a keen admirer. He made 81 appearances for Donny and was an integral part of their squad whilst there.
