Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Angel Rangel but his latest comments should put an end to the rumours. The Queens Park Rangers defender revealed to Football.London that he’s hoping to stay at Loftus Road until the end of the season after signing a short-term deal in August.

Rangel’s contract with the Hoops is set to expire in mid-January and his fine form at QPR was leading to interest from other Championship clubs. In addition to Forest being linked, Norwich City and MLS duo DC United & New York City are also reportedly keen on the 36-year-old’s signature, but Rangel has no intention of leaving Rangers mid-season.

The Spaniard said: “I’m happy that the team is doing well. In general, I’m not the quickest, I’m not the most skillful one, I am not the best in anything but I’m always there and will try to help the team in a way and that’s what I try to do. I’m enjoying that and hopefully I’ll stay here until the end of the season which is the main target for me and hopefully the club too.”

Let alone Rangel not wanting to leave QPR, Forest have no need to sign the veteran right-back given how many options they currently have in the squad. Aitor Karanka has Tendayi Darikwa as his first-choice and Saidy Janko providing cover. Forest even have Sam Byram currently recovering from a long-term injury, so that’s three fullbacks on their books.

Why Karanka would seek to sign Rangel makes little sense. Forest do need reinforcements in January, but a right-back isn’t one of the areas they’re weak in. Darikwa has performed well for the most part, making 14 Championship appearances this season, so supporters shouldn’t expect an approach for his potential replacement next month.
