According to Chronicle Live, Nottingham Forest ‘want to sign’ Jack Colback on a permanent deal after his successful audition on loan.

The Newcastle United midfielder spent the second-half of last season at the City Ground and returned to Forest for the 2018/19 campaign. He’s gone on to make 30 appearances in all competitions for the Reds and has been a regular under Aitor Karanka.

Colback doesn’t appear to have a future at Newcastle United and is out of contract with the Magpies next summer. With the midfielder being out of favour under Rafael Benitez, he may consider making his loan deal permanent with Forest. The 29-year-old joined Forest with a buying option, so Karanka can easily procure his signature at the end of the season if he sees fit.

The former Sunderland man has been a key player for Forest this season, featuring in 14 of their 17 Championship outings while averaging a tackle or interception every 20 minutes. There’s stiff competition in the side from Ben Watson, Claudio Yacob and Adlène Guédioura, but Colback remains one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Forest are seventh in the Championship with 27 points from 17 games, coming off the back of two wins and two draws from their last four.
