According to Paul Taylor of Nottinghamshire Live, Ryan Yates has a ‘minor knee problem’ and has travelled to Greece to receive treatment. The 21-year-old was initially omitted from the pre-season training camp, but he’s had to join the squad late to work with the club’s physios.

Forest are hoping to have Yates fit before their opening league game. His injury isn’t too serious, but the Reds want to ensure he has the best possible treatment to fast-track his recovery. Yates could have stiff competition from new-boys Alfa Semedo and Tiago Silva next season so he won’t want to be out of action for long.

The English midfielder made 17 appearances in all competitions for Forest last season, returning to the first-team in January and featuring in all but four of the 21 Championship games. Yates averaged 30 passes-per-game with 79% accuracy and averaged a tackle (23) or interception (22) every 27 minutes.

He missed Forest’s recent win over Atromitos but had played in pre-season games against Alfreton Town on June 29 and Dundee on July 2. Yates is likely to miss Forest’s last game of their Greece tour – Olympiacos on July 16.
