Looks like Forest are going cheap, but hopefully it will be cheerful as well.

According to a report from Swiss outlet Nau, Nottingham Forest are interested in 35-year-old forward Guillaume Hoarau. The veteran currently plays for Swiss side BSC Young Boys, oh the irony, but the Frenchman’s advisor has confirmed to Hau that Forest are indeed interested in him, even though nothing has been signed yet.

Hoarau certainly knows where the back of the net is, with a very impressive track record throughout his career, 224 goals in 488 games, and he hasn’t exactly let age get in the way of his ability, as he managed to bag 24 goals and 6 assists during the last Swiss Super League campaign.

It’s well known that Forest’s main forward Lewis Grabban’s minutes are going to be closely monitored this year and that he needs some form of help up front, so the fact that the main target this window is going to be in that department is no surprise.

And with Dwight Gayle reportedly going to cost Nottingham Forest, or any club that wants him for that matter, £15m, and with Hoarau currently valued on Transfermarkt at £1.35m, it would seem like this could be a great way to get the goals that Forest need to get promoted, but at just a fraction of the cost.

At the end of the day, Forest aren’t looking for someone who can come in, demand a first-team place and try to score 20 goals in a season. Just someone who can take the pressure off of Grabban every now and then whilst they rest him for more important matches throughout the season.

And if they can get just five or six goals from Hoarau, then he can act as that little bit of boost that Nottingham Forest need to make a challenge at the top two in the division.

Is £15m too much of a risk for someone like Dwight Gayle?

Yes

No

Not a lot, but just enough to get by.
