Nottingham Forest lack a ruthless mentality

Having played four games of the new Championship season, we currently occupy eighth place in the division, having remained unbeaten in all of our games. Nonetheless, three of those four results have been draws, and one senses that the squad needs to develop a ruthless streak to remain competitive.

Without question, we enjoyed one of the most productive transfer windows in recent memory during the summer, and while the numerous signings evoked infectious excitement among supporters, the team has yet to find its rhythm.

This season denotes our best opportunity to attain promotion to the top-flight of English football for some time, and despite our nervy start to the new campaign, I’m confident that we can achieve that ambition if we begin to develop a ruthless mentality.

We conceded the lead against West Brom, and we left it late to salvage results against Wigan Athletic and even Bury in the EFL Cup. Currently, we have a terrific manager in charge, one that is endowed with vast experience. Additionally, we have an exceedingly talented squad, one of our best in recent years.  The weakness that has curtailed the team so far is our inability to close out games, and secure results.

Naturally, it’s incredibly early in the season, and it would be senseless and impractical to demand perfection from the offset. However, we’re competing in an incredibly tight and remorseless league, where every advantage is critical to ensure success. I firmly believe that we have one of the most capable squads in the Championship, we must now certify that our mentality on the pitch reflects the talent that’s on display.

It’s crucial that we remain defensively compact and seize our opportunities when they present themselves. The margins are excruciatingly tight in the Championship; I’d hate to see us be left behind
