According to Ouest-France, Nottingham Forest could miss out on Simon Falette, with Nantes ‘looking at’ the centre-back. The Ligue 1 side are looking to replace Kara Mbodji whose loan move away from Anderlecht was cut short in January. Falette has been identified as his successor at the Stade de la Beaujoire which could be a big blow to Forest.

The Midlands outfit aren’t short of options at centre-back (Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo, Michael Hefele, new-boy Yohan Benalouane) but they’re enduring an injury crisis of late. Dawson is out with a hamstring injury and may not return for at least another week, Figueiredo is recovering from a leg injury and Hefele won’t be back in action until February.

The lack of fit and available centre-backs has made signing a defender a priority to new manager Martin O’Neill, according to the Irish Independent. Whether that will be Falette remains to be seen, but Forest are said to be in the market for his signature.

The 26-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions since joining Eintracht Frankfurt 18 months ago and still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract. He’s struggling for minutes this season, however, so he could be open to a move away from the Commerzbank-Arena.
