Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has wasted no time in telling anyone who will listen, that the penalty awarded to the Reds’ in the 2-2 draw yesterday was the wrong decision. Unfortunately for Mr. Pearson, it turns out that video evidence from the match, suggests that he is the one in the wrong.
Forest won their first penalty in 14 months at the King Power Stadium yesterday. That’s an incredible 59 games! Although most Forest fans who watched the match will admit that we were slightly fortunate to come away from the game with a point, they would also admit that we were way overdue some good fortune of our own.
Despite Mr. Pearson’s claims and protestations, that good fortune didn’t come by way of a 67th minute penalty given against Zak Whitbread for scything down Billy Sharp in the box. It came from his own teams inability to convert the chances they created. To say that Forest were second best for most of the game would be a little generous to us, but the penalty decision made by referee Anthony Taylor was absolutely spot on.
Pearson ranted and raved to the BBC, Sky TV and anyone else’s ears he could holler into. ‘It should not be a penalty. It was a perfectly good challenge. He got the ball and the referee is in a very good position to see it. If he cannot get that right it is laughable. It is about time these people became accountable. There is a team of four people out there and we need to utilise the four of them. I have seen the incident on television again and basically it is a good challenge from Whitbread.’
