Forest manager Billy Davies is still remaining grounded and refuses to talk up the clubs’ chances of promotion this season. Whilst he’s quite right in what he says, a win at Cardiff this afternoon will do little to silence the fans growing expectations and the use of the dreaded ‘P’ word will become the main topic of conversation once again.
Billy Davies is in the very fortunate position today of going into this game with little or no pressure on him. Defeat will see us remain in 10th spot and see us handilly placed to pick things up again next week against Brizzle at home. Win and we go hurtling into the Playoffs, with the feelgood factor at the club going into overdrive.
His counterpart Dave Jones on the otherhand, will have the hopes and expectations of the Welsh nation on his shoulders, at least the Cardiff side anyway. His side narrowly missed out on promotion last year and will be expected to improve on that this time round. A win for them will take them to the top of the table, but defeat will be seen as a severe blow to their title aspirations and confidence.
Davies has said that his remit for this season was an improvement on last years 19th placing in the table. Although it’s still early days, he’s well on course to achieving that already. He’s on record as saying that if the season finished now, he and his staff would be happy with 10th spot. I think we’d probably agree and take that now, but things are shaping up at the City Ground for a slightly better finish than that. Davies has ambitions and so do the club, following their £6m summer spend. Although a win at Cardiff today is a tall order for a young and emerging team, it’s not an impossible task with Davies at the helm. Whatever the outcome today, expect him to be upbeat with defeat and decidely unmoved with a victory. It’s a win-win situation for Billy.
