Manager Dougie Freedman has said that no decision has been made on former England, Leeds, Tottenham and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

The 36 year old has been training recently with Forest following his release by Blackburn Rovers over the summer and it is a trial spell as Freedman mulls over what to do with loans this window, and if we do sign Robinson to a deal, it would be as competition for Dorus de Vries meaning we could get Dimi Evtimov out on loan and get him some game time.

With only one space left in the 24 man squad allowed under the FFP embargo though, Freedman has to choose wisely having already brought in Bojan Jokic and Gary Gardner.

Speaking to the Nottingham Post to confirm the trial spell, Freedman explained.

‘I am looking for a keeper with experience, for no money, given the situation we are in. Paul had retired around eight months ago, but I have just asked him to come in and train. He knows Steve Sutton from his time at Leeds and he persuaded him to come here and just give it a go. He has been here for a few weeks, to see if he wants to come out of retirement. If he gets himself in good condition, he is a wonderful keeper with great ability. If he feels he wants to carry on, we might be able to give him that opportunity.’

The other day, Freedman was again asked about how that trial spell was going, and the same outlet carried.

‘We have not made a decision over Paul yet. But he did not want to retire in the manner that he did, he did not want to go out like that. So he is still training with us and it will make it easier for me to make a decision watching him in training every day. I have only one spot and I need to be careful what I do with that one. But he is doing himself no harm with what he is showing us. There is no question that he has the ability.’
