Nottingham Forest have come under fire from supporters in recent weeks, for their lack of activity in the transfer market amongst other things. So it should come as no surprise to find out that they couldn’t get the good news of a new signing out quick enough today, with the arrival of Brett Ormerod on loan from Preston.

I have to admit to being taken slightly off guard when my phone rang at 9.56am, with a new text message alert. When I checked and saw it was from NFFC, I assumed it was more begging and grovelling for my hard earned cash. But what a pleasant surprise it was to see them texting me (and every other season ticket holder), to let me know that they had signed a new striker.

Fair play to them I suppose. They are in need of some good news for once and they do need to get us back on side after the recent happenings at fortress City Ground. What remains to be seen now is whether Brett is the answer to our prayers. Only time will tell.

The question his signing now throws up, is what happens with Will Hoskins? It may mean that he has to return to Watford if the scan results on his back are as bad as expected.

Just in case you missed the text it read as follows:

Nottingham Forest have today completed the signing of striker Brett Ormerod from Preston on loan for the rest of the season.

Brett will go straight into the squad to face Crewe at Gresty Road tomorrow where he could make his debut.

He is Forest’s second loan signing following the arrival of Will Hoskins from Watford and will be a welcome addition to the Forest front line.

Starting his career in Lancashire with Accrington Stanley, Brett made a move to Blackpool in 1997 scoring 45 goals in 105 league appearances before moving to the Premiership with Southampton in a £1.75 million move. He appeared in the 2003 F.A. Cup final for The Saints against Arsenal.

His first home appearance in a Forest shirt is likely to be against Walsall on 15th March 2008 (3pm). Tickets are on sale now from the ticket office and online by clicking here. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 0871 226 1980.
