New Venue For New Stadium?

It came as a bolt out of the blue back in June, when Nottingham Forest announced plans to up roots and move to a purpose built venue on the outskirts of the City on the A453 at Clifton. Now though it seems that the City Council does not see this as their preferred venue for the new stadium.

Forest have never been too keen on developing the City Ground much further than it is now, due to the fact that it would have a limited capacity. The club has aspirations to be one of the venues in the 2018 World Cup if the England bid is successful. Unless we had a capacity of 50,000 that would never happen. The City Council says it would prefer the ground to be nearer the city centre.

Mark Arthur told the BBC. ‘Clifton is still high on the agenda for Nottingham Forest, but it may not necessarily be the site that everyone prefers.’ That could prove a major stumbling block in the clubs plans to move to Clifton.

This argument shows there is still a long way to go before work can even begin. If residents in Clifton are unhappy and the City Council are as well, then the A453 as a venue looks doubtful to say the least.
