With quiet efficiency, Nottingham Forest Manager Stuart Pearce jetted back from the Reds’ Portuguese training camp to renew acquaintances with Michael Mancienne.

The former Chelsea man had been a regular for Stuart Pearce’s England U21 side, even though his chances at Stamford Bridge had been limited. Brian Eastick and Steve Wigley are also familiar with the 6 foot 1 inch defender after their time in the England Youth set up.

With loan spells at QPR and Wolves, Mancienne proved to be a reliable defensive option for Stuart Pearce and the U21’s – making 30 appearances over a 4 year spell.

Despite signing a contract extension at Chelsea, the 26 year old made a permanent switch to Hamburg in May 2011 for a fee believed to be circa 2m Euros.

With just under a year of his 4 year contract at Hamburg remaining, the versatile defender had made just under 50 appearances in the Bundesliga before Forest swooped, to make him their 5th new signing of pre-season.

Clearly keen to link back up with Pearce & Co, Mancienne signed a 3 year contract with the Reds. He certainly adds experience and depth to the Forest squad, able to play anywhere along the back four and equally comfortable in a defensive midfield position.

Welcome to Nottingham Forest Michael – we wish you every success with the Reds!
