Megson To Make Pigs Ear Of Trotters?

So, less than six weeks in the job with Leicester City and Gary Megson looks set to take control at Premiership outfit Bolton Wanderers. All this after spending the last eighteen months searching high and not so high for a job. He’s gone from saying someone had poisoned his name and not being able to get a job anywhere since leaving the City Ground, to having two jobs within two months. Way to go Gary!

He only took over at the Walkers in September after Martin Allen was sensationally sacked by Chairman Milan Mandaric. City are now on the lookout for their FOURTH manager of 2007, FIFTH if you count Rob Kelly!!

I admit to not classing the Foxes as rivals in the past, but this is too good an opportunity to miss as regards sticking the boot in. Gary Megson’s first match in charge for Leicester was the Carling Cup game at the City Ground. Fans gave him a frosty reception that night, for his first visit back here. In fact it was quite hostile, so much so that Megson spent the match in the stands, well out of sight from the berating Reds support.

The most surprising fact about his short spell at the Walkers, is that he apparently was working without a contract. Mandaric is of the opinion that he’ll get £300K by way of compensation from Bolton, I’m not so sure about that.

It’s probably not too harsh to say that Megson was only second to David Platt in terms of dislike at the City Ground, but he wouldn’t have been far behind at Leicester. He was booed at the Walkers on Tuesday by the City faithful, after they lost 1-0 to Sheffield United. Fans were complaining of his negative tactics and being too defensive. Can you believe it? Despite this, he is top of the most wanted list as far as Bolton are concerned.

It hasn’t all been bad for Megson, he did after all get two successive promotions whilst in charge of West Brom. Although he took us into League 1, he did have a thankless and almost impossible task when he took charge at Forest and he did make one or two decent signings. That said, he also got us playing some of the worst football ever witnessed by the fans. It may well be that Bolton have appointed him, already resigned to the fact they’ll be relegated and have a ready made man to get them straight back up. As much as Leicester may not have wanted the former Forest man in the first place, surely they wouldn’t want to be looking for a replacement just yet. They will be on their third manager since the start of the season and it’s not even Christmas yet.

How successful Megson is with Bolton remains to be seen, but he has a massive job in saving them from relegation already. At present they are rooted to the bottom with only 5 points to show for their efforts so far and they are 3 points from safety. They clearly need to score goals and that’s not exactly what the former Forest boss was famous for in his time at the City Ground.
