Megson Is Struggling To Find Work

Former Red’s boss Gary Megson today told the Sun that he was surprised to be still out of work.

TWO years ago Gary Megson was preparing for a season as a Premiership manager ? now his quest is to prove that there is life after Nottingham Forest.

Megson quit Forest in February after 12 months of turmoil but laughs off suggestions that the City Ground job is jinxed.

Yet those who have been in charge like David Platt, Paul Hart and Joe Kinnear have sometimes struggled after their departures.

Megson (right) confesses he is surprised to be still out of work but insisted: “It might be a bit of a poisoned chalice but I don`t think there is a curse.

“I can`t say that Forest was my greatest hour. It can take a long time to get a reputation and a short time for it to change.

“But I still think my track record as a manager stands up. Although you do wonder whether what happened at Forest has affected the way I`m viewed as a manager.

“I did exactly the same at West Brom, Stoke, Stockport and Blackpool and I was successful there. That`s why I`m disappointed not to be in work.”

Megson, who is occupying himself with an England scouting role, added: “Forest is a fantastic club with a great chairman and chief executive.

“But it turned out to be a mistake for me. The dressing room was poisonous and after two weeks I knew I wouldn`t be there long. I had to do a hatchet job and that made me very unpopular.”

But Megson has spoken to new boss Colin Calderwood and said: “I`ve told him it`s a great club and it will be even better from the summer of 2007 when a lot of contracts are up.”
