Well, there probably aren’t many positives to come out of that result, but there is one that dwarves the rest of them.
I’m talking of course about Jordan Smith.
With regular number one Brice Samba suffering from a slight knee injury, the 25-year-old made his first league appearance since 2018 and certainly made up for lost time with a rather impressive display between the sticks, doing his very best to keep the hosts at bay when they were throwing everything at him.
With Barnsley having 20 shots in total, 7 of them on target and even hitting the woodwork on a few occasions, he was pretty under the cosh for the whole game, so to keep them out for as long as he could.
Does Jordan Smith have a future at Nottingham Forest?
Yes
No
Indeed, he was the only player that seemed to come out of the loss to Barnsley with any credit from the supporters, judging by their reaction on social media.

Well played Jordan Smith sat on the bench all season and did not let anyone down today – he deserved more, Worrall Grabban too the rest poor. #nffc

The only #nffc player you can feel sorry for is Jordan Smith. He has come in cold and delivered a magnificent performance. Unfortunately nobody else got to 5/10.
A late goal so costly yet again.
1/3 #NFFC
