Mark Arthur – The Boy’s Done Good

The number and quality of the signings at Nottingham Forest this summer, is almost unprecedented. That’s thanks in no small part to CEO Mark Arthur, the man who has so often in the past, been seen as one of the main reasons the club fell to the depths it did.

If the hierarchy at the City Ground ever take a look at the message boards to guage opinion, they will see that the support for them is currently riding high, with a mood optimism amongst supporters not seen for many a long year.

It very much seems like there’s a new dawn at NFFC and that past failings by the men in suits are being put right. The poor and failed marketing campaigns of yester year and there badly worded tag lines should now be put in the bin and left where they belong, firmly in the past.

Some will say the new dawn started back in January, with the appointment of Billy Davies. Not widely supported at the time by the fans, but an inspired one as it turned out. Billy Davies saved us from relegation, drew up his wishlist of summer targets and gradually the men in suits, led by Mark Arthur, successfully brought the targets in and in most cases at a decent price.

Nigel Doughty, now has a manager he can have faith in and he’s showing that faith by backing his man with cash. Mark Arthur and his acquisitions team have done their bit, with some rather nifty negotiating and against our better judgement, brought the targets home. By the time the rebuilding is complete, we can expect to see at least nine new faces in the Garibaldi. They will all be the managers primary targets and all successfully concluded before a ball has been kicked. That’s some achievement for any club, at any level of the game. We’ve all stuck the boot in to Arthur at some time, but we have to give credit where it’s due and it’s certainly due here. Cigar for that man.
