Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is so keen to land Joe Worrall on loan that he contacted the club over the weekend to assure them that the 21-year-old would play regularly, according to the Daily Record.

The Football Insider had reported that we were not keen on the defender playing in the Scottish Premiership and would have preferred him to remain in England.

Ipswich are also reportedly keen on Worrall, but it is not known whether Gerrard’s intervention has swayed things in the Scottish club’s favour.

The centre-back is said to be keen to join up with the Gers boss,  and it seems that if all goes to plan the SPFL outfit are hopeful of getting a deal over the line in the next 24 hours.

With Worrall so far down the pecking order, it is not surprising that he will be allowed to leave, but many fans are concerned that, along with the sale of Ben Brereton, Aitor Karanka hasn’t given some of the club’s young prospects a fair chance.
