Luke Steele was rumoured to be on his way out of Nottingham Forest for Olympiacos this month, but he took to social media to deny the reports and supporters were delighted with his response.

The 34-year-old has been short of playing time since joining from Bristol City over the summer, but he made it clear that he won’t be exiting the City Ground in January.

Forest are overstocked with goalkeepers, with Aitor Karanka having Steele, Costel Pantilimon and Stephen Henderson to choose from. The Reds have also been linked with Leicester City stopper Eldin Jakupovic.

Steele has only made five appearances in all competitions for Forest, but he appears content to remain at the club. The veteran goalkeeper is playing backup to Pantilimon, but he’s been handed minutes in both the EFL Cup and FA Cup by Karanka.

The former Manchester United man was given 90 minutes against Chelsea in the FA Cup on January 5, but that was his only appearance in the Forest first-team since October 30. His deal with the Reds expires in 2020, but he may consider his future over the summer if he continues to be on the periphery.
